How it works
- 1
Tell us about the payment
Send the invoice or agreement, the amount and who you're paying. We tell you first whether the payment needs these forms at all.
- 2
Tax check
We work out whether the payment is taxable in India, under the Act or the tax treaty, and the rate of TDS.
- 3
TDS, if due
If tax is to be deducted, we give you the amount and the details for depositing it under your TAN.
- 4
Certificate and declaration
You assign the certificate to our CA on the portal. The CA issues it online, and we prepare your declaration with its details.
- 5
Hand over to the bank
You give the bank the acknowledgements, and it processes the remittance.
What the two forms are
Form 15CA is the remitter's declaration, filed online, giving details of a payment to a non-resident and the tax deducted on it. Form 15CB is a chartered accountant's certificate on whether the payment is taxable in India, under which provision and at what rate. Banks ask for these before they send the money.
These are the form names under the 1961 Act's rules. From 1 April 2026, remittances are covered by the Income-tax Act, 2025 and the forms prescribed under it, and we file whichever applies on the date of your payment.
When the certificate is needed
Not every remittance needs both forms. Payments on a notified list, such as most imports of goods and certain personal remittances, don't need a declaration at all. Small taxable payments below a limit need only a short declaration, and larger taxable payments need the CA certificate too, unless the department has issued an order or certificate for the payment.
Where a payment isn't taxable in India, a declaration may still be needed. We tell you which parts apply before we start.
Frequently asked questions
Does every foreign payment need Form 15CA and 15CB?
No. Payments on the notified list, such as most imports of goods, don't need them, and small payments may need only a short declaration. We check your payment against the rules before preparing anything.
I'm an NRI who sold property in India. Do I need these forms to move the money abroad?
Usually yes. Banks ask for the declaration and the CA certificate before sending money from an NRO account abroad, along with proof that tax on the sale was paid. We check the tax deducted by the buyer and your capital gains before issuing the certificate.
What is a Tax Residency Certificate and do I need one?
It's a certificate from the payee's country confirming they're resident there for tax. It's needed, along with some other details from the payee, to claim a lower rate under a tax treaty.
Do I need to do anything on the portal?
One step. You add our CA on your e-filing account and assign the certificate form, so the CA can file it. The declaration is made in the remitter's name; we prepare it and file it with you.
Is TDS always deducted on payments abroad?
No. It depends on the nature of the payment, whether it's taxable in India under the Act or the treaty, and whether the payee has a presence here. Many payments, such as for imported goods, carry no Indian tax. We give you the rate in writing.
Is this the same as the quarterly TDS return?
No. If you deduct tax on a payment to a non-resident, you also report it in the quarterly non-resident TDS statement, which is a separate filing.
