How it works

  1. 1

    Scope and fee

Tell us your turnover, the kind of business and how your books are kept. We confirm whether an audit applies and the fee.

  2. 2

    Books ready for audit

Your accountant closes the books for the year. We send a list of what the auditor will check, so the records are ready.

  3. 3

    Audit

The auditor checks your records, verifies balances and payments, and asks for anything missing.

  4. 4

    Report and review

We prepare the audit report and statement of particulars and go through the findings with you, including any disallowances.

  5. 5

    Filing

The auditor uploads the report on the e-filing portal. You accept it from your login, and your return can then be filed.

When a tax audit applies

For FY 2025-26, the tax audit falls under section 44AB of the 1961 Act, which covers three broad cases. A business needs an audit when its turnover crosses the limit in the Act; the limit is much higher when cash receipts and cash payments are each a small share of the total. A professional needs one when gross receipts cross a separate, lower limit.

The third case is the presumptive scheme: if you declare a lower profit than the scheme's rate and your income is above the basic exemption limit, an audit can apply. The rules have several conditions and exceptions, so we check your figures before confirming.

What the audit report contains

Under the 1961 Act, the auditor reports in Form 3CA or 3CB, with a statement of particulars in Form 3CD. The statement covers your books, turnover, depreciation, loans and deposits, payments to related parties, TDS compliance, cash payments above the limits and many other items.

These details feed into your return and are visible to the department, so the two must match. Disallowances the auditor reports, such as expenses on which TDS wasn't deducted, are added to your income in the return.

Tax audit from tax year 2026-27

The Income-tax Act, 2025 keeps the tax audit under a new section number. Audits for FY 2025-26 are done under the 1961 Act; audits for tax year 2026-27, done in 2027, follow the new Act and the report format prescribed under it.

The audit report has to be filed before the return, and missing it can bring a penalty linked to turnover. Book your audit early, since many businesses work to the same dates.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a tax audit and a statutory audit?

A statutory audit under the Companies Act or the LLP Act checks whether the financial statements give a true and fair view. A tax audit reports specific tax details in a prescribed format. A company that crosses the tax audit limit needs both.

Can the CA who keeps my books also do my tax audit?

No. ICAI's rules don't let a chartered accountant audit accounts that they or their firm have written up. If our team keeps your books, tell us when you order, so the audit can be arranged within those rules.

What happens if I don't get a tax audit done?

The Act provides a penalty linked to turnover, subject to a cap, and a return filed without a required audit report can be treated as defective. If you've missed the date, get the audit done and filed as soon as possible.

I trade in futures and options. Do I need a tax audit?

It depends on your trading turnover, which is worked out in a specific way for derivatives, and on whether you declare a profit below the presumptive rate. Send us your broker's statements and we'll tell you.

How long does a tax audit take?

Usually one to two weeks after your books are final, depending on their size and how quickly queries are answered. Most delays come from missing records, so share everything at the start.

Is the income tax return included?

No. It's a separate service, filed after the audit report. If you order both, we prepare the return from the same audited figures.
