Changes to GST registration
When your business details change, the GST registration has to be amended within 15 days. We work out whether the change is a core field that needs the officer's approval, a non-core field that takes effect when filed, or something that needs a new registration. Then we file it with the right documents and follow it through.

How it works
- 1
Tell us what changed
The change, the date it happened and any documents you already have.
- 2
Classify the change
We check whether it's a core field, a non-core field, or a change, such as a new PAN or a move to another state, that needs a fresh registration.
- 3
File the amendment
We file the application on the portal with supporting documents, and the authorised signatory signs it with a DSC or OTP.
- 4
Officer's review
Core changes go to the officer, who may ask questions; we reply on your behalf. Non-core changes take effect when filed.
- 5
Updated certificate
Once the change is approved, we download the amended registration certificate and send it to you.
Core and non-core fields
Core fields are the legal name of the business, the principal and additional places of business, and the people responsible for it: partners, directors, karta, managing committee members or the CEO. Changing them needs the officer's approval, and the rules give the officer 15 working days to approve or ask for clarification. Everything else, such as contact details, bank accounts, authorised signatories and the goods or services you deal in, is non-core and takes effect when filed.
Some changes can't be made by amendment. A change in PAN, for example when a proprietorship becomes a company, needs a new registration, and unused credit is moved across through Form GST ITC-02. Moving the principal place of business to another state also needs a new registration in that state.
Why the registration has to stay current
Notices, OTPs and reminders go to the email and mobile on your registration, so outdated contact details mean missed deadlines. Officers verify businesses at the addresses on record, and a business not found at its registered address can have its registration cancelled.
The law asks you to apply within 15 days of a change. If you open a new branch or godown in the same state, add it as an additional place of business before you start using it.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an amendment take?
Non-core changes take effect when filed. Core changes need the officer's approval; the rules give the officer 15 working days, and a query adds time.
Can I change from a proprietorship to a company through amendment?
No. A company has its own PAN, so it needs a new GST registration. Unused input tax credit can be moved to the new registration through Form GST ITC-02, and the old registration is then cancelled.
We're moving to another state. Can we amend the address?
No. Registration is state-wise, so you register in the new state and cancel the old registration if you no longer have a place of business there.
Can I change the business name?
The legal name changes only when the name on the PAN changes, for example after a company changes its name with the MCA. That is a core amendment. A trade name can also be updated by amendment.
How do I change the authorised signatory's mobile number or email?
It's a non-core amendment. The new mobile number and email are verified by OTP, and the change takes effect when filed.
I missed the 15-day deadline. What now?
File as soon as you can. Outdated details cause more trouble the longer they stay, at verification, during an inspection or when a notice goes to an old email.
